I’ve just finished reading Three Cups of Tea and I must say that I’m sad. I’m sad that I will never get to experience this book again for the first time. It may be the greatest, most inspiring thing I’ve read in my entire life. the story Three Cups of Tea just about sums up all of the feelings I’ve had lately about wanting to do great things, be extraordinary, and be a hero. Greg Mortenson, the man behind the story, is just that. And with his hard work, dedication, and tremendous sacrifice, Greg shows us all that being a hero is within reach for anyone willing to put in the work.
I won’t tell you much about the book, I couldn’t possibly do it justice. But Three Cups of Tea is about Greg Mortenson’s quest to build schools in the rural mountainous parts of Pakistan. His focus is on educating the youth, primarily the neglected girls, so that they have a well rounded education and are protected from the extremist education that the saudi funded terrorist groups breed new recruits through.
Greg is a hero, in every sense of the word. The things he does, the things he’s been through, and the sacrifices he makes every day show that his dedication to these children goes beyond our dedication to pretty much anything at all. Greg sacrifices months at a time, away from his wife and family, to oversee that his projects in Pakistan are being fulfilled and that the children are being shown the importance of education. Greg is giving something to the girls of these remote regions of Pakistan that they would have NEVER gotten otherwise; self-worth, self-respect, and a sense of empowerment.
I hope to one day get a chance to meet “Dr Greg.” I would be honored just to be able to shake the man’s hand. His actions are single handedly preventing terrorism, increasing health conditions in these villages, and giving these people a new found sense of honor and discipline that we take for granted each day.
Greg, if you ever lay eyes on this article, know this; Anything I can do for you, I am only 1 email away from doing. As an educated American born Muslim, I offer my thanks and a heart full of love and respect for you and everything you and your organization are doing for our brothers and sisters in humanity on the other side of the world. I’d gladly join you in your battle if you found me to be of any assistance.
Thank you for everything you continue to do Greg, and thank you David Oliver Relin for sharing this wonderful story with us.
If you haven’t yet read this book, I urge you to buy it and read it. It will open your heart, and remind you of our purpose in life, to help others and find happiness. Pick up a copy of the book here!
