My Super New Years Resolution

When it comes to creating habits, I find that the fewer you are working on at one time the better.  Not many people can stick to starting 5 habits at once, and most of the time when they quit one they quit all.  To ensure that this is not the case, I have decided to only work on 1 New Years Resolution; a super important one that will encompass and surpass many of the other resolutions I might have otherwise had (and you probably have).

First I will explore the more popular new years resolution.  Then I will tell you why my 1 resolution is better than all of them.  I’m sure you will enjoy reading why I think my resolution is way better than yours, huh?

  • Lose Weight
  • Eat Better
  • Manage Debt
  • Save Money
  • Get a better job
  • Get fit
  • Drink less alcohol
  • Get a better education
  • Quit smoking
  • Reduce stress
  • Take a trip
  • Volunteer

Each one of these is a great resolution, and each would improve one important aspect of your life.  But my fantastic resolution will improve on every one of these and more.  Are you ready to hear what it is?

Well I will start by telling you that my resolution will give me the power to take action in every aspect of life.  It will allow me to do everything I want to do, and to take responsibility for pretty much everything that happens in my life.  My resolution will give me the power to do things that I didn’t think I could do, that I wasn’t able to muster up the strength and courage to do, or that I just didn’t do, whether through laziness or whatever the case.  My resolution gives me full control of my life.  So what is my resolution?  Alright I think you’ve waited long enough.

I resolve to live life proactively in 2009. This means that everything I do will be with the intention of furthering my growth or enjoying life, or whatever my reason may be.  But everything will have reason, meaning, depth.  Everything I eat will be with purpose, every walking step will be with a goal.  I will take so much action in 2009 that it will make 2008 look like a stand still.  And everything I do will be with purposeful motivation.

Taking a proactive role in life, rather than a reactive role, will be difficult at times.  Sometimes it may feel impossible.  But after truly understanding what it is to live proactively, I just can’t go back to letting the world have it’s way with me.  It’s time for me to take over and become who I feel I am inside.  It’s time to take the reins and start making waves.  The time has come for the world to see just what Ibrahim Husain is and what he is capable of.  I’m going to make a difference in 2009.  I’m pumped and ready to get this ball rolling.

Now is it just me or is that a pretty badass resolution?  Oh and for all the naysayers,  towards the end of 2008 (september) I started working out daily (cardio/weight lifting), last semester I paid off all of my credit card debt (just student loans now), I am currently eating fantastically in preparation for my 6 pack contest March 1st, I love my student worker job, I don’t drink alcohol at all, I don’t smoke, I live relatively stress free, I took a trip over winter break, and I plan on volunteering again this semester.  I’m gonna do it all, and you can too!

Have any interesting resolutions? Or maybe you just want to reaffirm yourself by sharing yours?  Leave a comment and let us know how you plan on bettering yourself in 2009!
