Achieve Greater Success by Defining It
Written by Ibrahim on July 3, 2008 – 6:36 pm -“The tragedy in life doesn’t lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach.” - Benjamin Mayes
If I called you and told you to meet me on the west coast, but never gave you any detailed directions could you find me? It’s possible, though I definitely wouldn’t be at the first place you looked. Achieving success follows a similar pattern. You could achieve success by mere chance or ‘luck,’ it may fall into your lap, or it may be handed to you. But these are not chances that most of us are willing to take. So allow me to give you a kindergarden tip to help you achieve greater success.
Define success.
That’s it. If I gave you an address to meet me at you would know exactly where to look, and all you would need to do is figure out directions to that address. Similarly, if you know what success is to you, all you will need to do is figure out the directions to get there. Defining success won’t automatically give it to you, but it definitely starts a great foundation for you to build upon.
If success to you is having $5,000 in the bank, then the directions are to find a way to put money in the bank. If you didn’t know what success was you may have still put $5,000 in the bank, but you wouldn’t have done it consciously, you wouldn’t have been working towards that goal, and chances are it would have taken you a lot longer.
This probably seems simple. I’m not teaching you anything new here. I’m merely reminding you of something we all know, but few of us ever actually do. So let’s take the time to define exactly what success means to us (individually), and make a conscious effort daily to move towards achieving our own definition of success. I guarantee that this will boost your speed towards becoming a greater achiever of success!
Ciao!
