For Anyone Who Needs to Get Things Done

I just finished reading “The Greatest Management Principle in the World” by Michael LeBoeuf, and I am rather impressed. Though the book was written in 1985, way before the GTD movement, this book is rather inspirational in not only getting things done, but also in creative and lateral thinking, as well as tips on achieving more and things of that nature. Leboeuf stresses that “The Things that get rewarded, get done,” to explain how to manage people and how rewards consistantly achieve better results than punishments. I’ll go into a little detail of what should be rewarded and a couple of other ideas from the book. Read more »

How to Achieve More: Be Your Own Personal Assistant
Written by Ibrahim on June 17, 2008 – 6:32 pm -Pam Beesly from “The Office”
I was thinking about how much I do now during this summer break, or rather how little I do, when I came upon the idea that I could acheive so much more if I had my own personal assistant. Then reality struck… I have no money. So, I came up with my next best solution: Fire me as my personal assistant, and hire a new me. Confused?

7 Habits of Losers - Are Your Buddies Keeping You Back?
Written by Ibrahim on June 13, 2008 – 7:07 pm -Shilpan, at Dumb Little Man wrote an excellent article about habits of your friends that are holding you back. Here’s an excerpt.
A billboard near my house reads, “Tell me the company you keep, and I’ll tell you what you are.” If you ponder, there’s a truth in this statement. A criminal seeks another criminal; a successful man seeks the company of another successful man.

Weekly Focus: Getting Things Done
Written by Ibrahim on June 2, 2008 – 11:39 am -This week we will focus on Getting Things Done. Getting Things Done is David Allen’s system (well multiple systems) for Zen-like productivity. He goes over the basics of implementing systems for organization and higher levels of productivity. Rather than try to explain everything that Allen covers, I’m going to list a few links of places that have already done just that. David Allen’s book is an excellent way to completely change your life’s productivity and organization. Never again will you have to remember when something is due or the time of your next meeting. He covers it all.

The Best Book I’ve ever purchased
Written by Ibrahim on May 8, 2008 – 11:37 pm -
The Compact Classics is turning out to be the best book I’ve ever purchased. I am able to learn about all of the classics very quickly (it summarizes books of all sorts in 2 pages each), and decide which I want to read the full versions of. And the list extends far beyond the literary classics.

So with that in mind, grab your books, get your gear, head to your library, and pound out a couple of hours of good ole fashion studying, using these techniques for making the most of your study breaks without letting your brain go to sleep.

Be selfish so that you can be more Generous
Written by Ibrahim on March 27, 2008 – 6:59 pm -Selfishness is the act of giving priority of thought or deed to the self. It is placing one’s own interests over the needs or desires or others. Selfishness is often thought to be the opposite of altruism. Altruism is the selfless concern for the welfare of others. Altruism is considered a virtue, while selfishness is considered a vice. Here at Zen College Life, I am going to explain to you how selfishness in itself can be a virtue, as well as why and how you should practice selfishness in your everyday life.

Boost productivity by building your fortress of solitude
Written by Ibrahim on March 27, 2008 – 6:53 pm -Superman had a fortress of solitude. It was a magical wonderland, apart from the rest of the world, where he could go to really get some thinking done. Now I’m sure that crumby little desk you have in the corner of your room has done you fine these last few years, but I suggest that to be great, you must surround yourself with greatness. That includes the equipment you use to get your work done, the people you choose to have around you, and the things you choose to spend your time doing.
