Reader’s Free Blog Contest
Written by Ibrahim on October 13, 2008 – 9:40 am -Alright guys, here it is, the first contest held at Zen College Life.com. I’ve been thinking about a way to inspire others to write, as writing has recently changed my life, and I think that a free custom blog is the way to go. So here’s the challenge. Tell me why you would like a custom blog (self hosted, like zencollegelife, not wordpress.com or blogger.com), and what you plan to do with it. Read more »

Top 33 Reasons to Have Your Own Blog
Written by Ibrahim on October 8, 2008 – 4:52 pm -I have my own personal blog, aside from Zen College Life. I haven’t really done much with it to date, but I have big plans. I really think it is important for everyone to have an online presence. Some people use linkedin, facebook, myspace, etc. But if your name is something of a brand, as I’m hoping mine to one day be, you really should own your own domain, and it definitely makes things easy if it is your name, as mine is, Ibrahim Husain.com. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Written by Ibrahim on October 2, 2008 – 8:46 am -I have to admit that I am not very well informed on breast cancer. At least not as well as I should be. I learned a thing or two about it in Genetics, and I’m sure I’ll get the chance to learn more later in my science career, but for being a biology student with a strong interest in healthcare, I just don’t know enough. Breast cancer claims the lives of over 500,000+ people annually. Many of us know someone who is or was affected by breast cancer. Seeing as how October is the national Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I thought I’d spice things up around Zen College Life to help raise awareness! Read more »

5 Books That Changed My Life
Written by Ibrahim on September 30, 2008 – 9:27 am -I never enjoyed reading as a child. I wasn’t interested in books. I thought that nobody wrote anything that I would be interested in reading. It wasn’t till about a year ago, at the age of 22, that I really dove into books and found that magical world that words can create. Since then my life has changed vastly. I’ve gotten on track academically, my financial situation has stabilized (without any large increase in income), my relationships have improved, and I feel like my mind is clearer, allowing me to think more logically and make more conscious decisions. If I had to choose the 5 most influential books that helped me along the way, these would be the ones (along with links to get them cheap on amazon). Enjoy! Read more »

Patience, The Greatest Virtue of All
Written by Ibrahim on September 29, 2008 – 9:29 am -“Learn the art of patience. Apply discipline to your thoughts when they become anxious over the outcome of a goal. Impatience breeds anxiety, fear, discouragement and failure. Patience creates confidence, decisiveness, and a rational outlook, which eventually leads to success.” -Brian Adams
Who knew Brian Adams was so philosophical. But he got it right, patience creates confidence, decisiveness, a rational outlook, which eventually leads to success. We are 2+ weeks post Hurricane Ike, and though I didn’t feel the hurt of the hurricane, the damage around the city and surrounding cities and the power outages have given me the grand opportunity of exercising patience. The Most Important Document - For Free!
Written by Ibrahim on September 23, 2008 – 10:36 am -If you only read one extracurricular document this semester, let it be the most important one. Let it be the document that has influenced millions if not billions of lives since its debut on Sept. 17, 1787. Let it be the document that has done more to influence your life than your parents, teachers, and mentors combined. It has given you the right to live your life the way you choose. It has given you the freedom to speak how you feel without being persecuted. It has allowed you to practice the religion of your choice, protect yourself with arms, vote, own land, and so much more. Easy Humanitarian Ideas
Written by Ibrahim on September 8, 2008 – 11:17 am -I have a couple of ideas for some easy humanitarianism, but I’m not sure how to go about implementing them. Maybe you the readers can help.
Idea #1 Retail Card Swipe Message
Having worked in the retail industry, I’ve seen that people do in fact want to do good. They just don’t have the easy and reliable access to do so, and when people have to do more work to do good you will see an exponential decrease in the amount actually done. Read more »
