I’ve noticed a widespread problem among most college students. Well I say most, but it’s really almost every student minus the business students; We are not good at remembering people’s names.  Just moments after being introduced to someone we’ve already forgotten.  We are so obsessed with introducing ourselves, saying our own names, that we forget to pay attention to the other person’s name.  Business students are taught the importance of networking and remembering people, but the rest of us neglect the importance of such a thing. I’ve been thinking a lot about motivation and inspiration.  I started swimming 5 weeks ago, and I’ve swam at least 5 times each week.  Sometimes I didn’t feel like swimming and did it anyways, but most of the time I really want to go.  I know what motivates me to swim; fitness and the fact that when I was young I used to go to my grandpas house many times throughout each summer and we’d bbq and swim in his pool.  I have very fond memories of those times, and I think that keeps me interested in getting in the water.  Read more »

I’m going to be honest with you.  I searched “reasons to vote McCain” in google, and scoured the first 10 pages, but couldn’t find any support for McCain that seemed serious and/or wasn’t painted with opinion or seemingly written by a redneck or KKK member.  For the McCain/Palin supporters, I apologize.  What I did find was some pretty clever satire.  I present to you the Top 10 Most Hilarious Reasons to Vote for John McCain. I have my own personal blog, aside from Zen College Life.  I haven’t really done much with it to date, but I have big plans.  I really think it is important for everyone to have an online presence.  Some people use linkedin, facebook, myspace, etc.  But if your name is something of a brand, as I’m hoping mine to one day be, you really should own your own domain, and it definitely makes things easy if it is your name, as mine is, Ibrahim Husain.com. I never enjoyed reading as a child.  I wasn’t interested in books.  I thought that nobody wrote anything that I would be interested in reading.  It wasn’t till about a year ago, at the age of 22, that I really dove into books and found that magical world that words can create.  Since then my life has changed vastly.  I’ve gotten on track academically, my financial situation has stabilized (without any large increase in income), my relationships have improved, and I feel like my mind is clearer, allowing me to think more logically and make more conscious decisions.  If I had to choose the 5 most influential books that helped me along the way, these would be the ones (along with links to get them cheap on amazon).  Enjoy!
