This one always chaps my hide, "Affirmative action...was used to offset hundreds of years of racial oppression." Gee, that sounds real "fair". Let's punish the current population of people from a particular group because some other people, from the PAST and from that same group took advantage of the other people from a different group, from the PAST. What a load of crap! Real affirmative action would be to ensure that there is a LEVEL playing field with the SAME opportunities for ALL. But that's just not how some people in our culture think. Some people feel that they have the right to punish other people for things they didn't do. Having scholarships that are based upon race, gender, etc., while it does irritate me, is completely okay with me. Why? Because the people that are offering the funds have the FREEDOM to give their money to whomever they chose. That freedom also includes scholarships that could be only for Caucasian, males, who are straight, that lived on the north side of a river. But in our politically correct, aka BS, society, we are taught from birth that we should punish those who have done nothing wrong.
In my own opinion, I would rather just see scholarships for those that EARN them! Based upon MERIT and GRADES and not because of the color of your skin or your gender, etc. But that would violate that freedom I mentioned early of the scholarship provider(s).
No special treatment for anybody, the same treatment for everybody. Diversity....more like division.

poor whiteboy said it all.
However, did you all know that if you go to a minority school (one that is all black or hispanic or whatever it may be), if you are white and go to that kind of college, you can apply for a minority scholarship. because you are white and go to an all minority college.
I plan on going to Elizabeth City State University in NC. They are a mainly black college. I'm white. White would be the minority there. So i can apply for the scholarships for the minorities.

Hey jo,
Why do you think DOCTORS are always practicing? They need to bring up their GPA, they are still in science class and we are their new frogs in biology.

I am an engineering major, I was talking to a guy that works for a local engineering firm. He was put in charge of making his department more efficient. He told me that mathmatically his job would be the first one to go. He also told me that being a brown haired blue eyed white male, I would have a very hard time finding a job, because, the government gives them funding for hireing women/minorities. He also said that even if I was the best candidate I would probably loose the position to a minority because of the funding issue. REDICULOUS!! luckily if things stay this my kids will have an edge,... My fiance is puerto rican/ cuban.

I am seriously amused that people have started a racism forum on a scholarship page...
I am 100% white (American irish german).
I went to an HBCU (historically black college or university).
I was the ONLY white guy at my school.
Most people thought I was hispanic or mixed or something.
Virtually all of the scholarships for the school (and those advertised) were for "minority" students only. I could not apply.
All of the opportunities for projects, research, and symposiums (many with large $ awards) my school went to were for "minority" students only (I was a science major). I could not present/participate.
I was not invited to many social events and subjected to many "it was the slavery of the whites that keeps me from achieving my life goals (aka making bad decisions)" talks and lectures (on a 1-1 basis and lecturer basis).
I had to work my but off to pay for my education and did not screw around.
From my experience and research:
The average middle class white male can not afford the inflated college expense, has little opportunity for scholarship, and is passed over not because of quality or achievement, but for demographics.

Treat each other with respect and listen to one another.
