I see a lot of people with iPod touches these days. With me being an old school type of guy, I still prefer my 80 gig classic. It holds more stuff and gets the job done for me. Here are a few of the great things you can do with an ipod of any kind.
1. Language tapes.
Tired of lugging all those CD’s around? You should put all those CD’s on your iPod. It’s going to save you a lot of stress when you don’t have to fumble through all of your CD’s. My favorite language CD’s for learning are from Michel Thomas and Pimsleur. If you can’t afford any language learning material, go to your local library and they should more than likely have your target language.
2. Audiobooks
Like reading books? Well since I don’t have much time to read books, audiobooks are the way to go for me. Since I drive 30 minutes to school everyday, audiobooks on my iPod keep me up to date with today’s hottest books.
3. Podcasts
I don’t watch or listen to much news or radio, but podcasts keep me up to date. If I’m not by a T.V. I always have my iPod to watch. Many of my favorite morning radio shows have podcasts. So that means I don’t have to wake up to hear my favorite morning radio.
4. iTunes U
I have always wanted to take computer science class even though I don’t need to take it for any of my majors. iTunes U offers classes from some of America’s prestigious universities. The only downside to iTunes U is the fact that you don’t receive a grade.
5. Flash Cards
I discovered earlier this year that my iPod could be used as a study tool for flash cards. The way I do it is by creating the cards at this site and then transferring them to my iPod. This is really great because it saves me time from buying, creating, and storing a lot of flashcards. Now I have my study wherever I go on my iPod.
Got any more uses for iPods? Post them in the comments.

Hi there,
.
First I wanna thank you all (writers) for this amazing blog!
Actually, I’m not yet in college (last year in high school) but I’ve found some great tips around here which are universal somehow
Speaking about the article, I’ve already heard about flashcards but didn’t know we can put them on iPod so thanks for the trick
; however I’m huge fan of podcasts & audiobooks which help me a lot learning English (since I’m not a native).
P.S. Sorry about the issue with the comments, hope to help you out with it by posting some
.
Great job guys!
There is a ton of good information on this website, something I wish was present when I finished my Undergrad four years ago!
I would to maybe see something like the best apps for Ipod Touch for college students , that I believe would be an interesting read for college and non-college goers!
Thanks again for all the great information , I will be passing this on to my cousin who’s starting at University of Toronto this fall.
Check out my blog as well : http://www.liferevamp.com . I would love to see one of you folks write for my blog as well !
All the best !

I just want to point out that you could make it do double duty, since you can find podcasts that teach you languages. It’s a helpful thing I’ve discovered.

[...] “Essential Things to do With an Ipod” – I do not have an iPod myself, but, if I did, I would utilize some of the useful tips mentioned in this post. In particular, I like the tip about listening to audiobooks – I have heard that writing and vocabulary is improved more quickly through auditory listening than through silent reading. [...]
“The only downside to iTunes U is the fact that you don’t receive a grade.” Lol. Well, for some classes this is more of an upside than a downside.
Looks like a great blog. Keep up the good work.
True, but if you treat it like free school, and use it to learn things you want to (like the classes you want to take, but can't fit into your schedule), it's a pretty awesome resource!
