Be selfish so that you can be more Generous

Selfishness is the act of giving priority of thought or deed to the self. It is placing one’s own interests over the needs or desires or others. Selfishness is often thought to be the opposite of altruism. Altruism is the selfless concern for the welfare of others. Altruism is considered a virtue, while selfishness is considered a vice. Here at Zen College Life, I am going to explain to you how selfishness in itself can be a virtue, as well as why and how you should practice selfishness in your everyday life.

Boost productivity by building your fortress of solitude
Written by Ibrahim on March 27, 2008 – 6:53 pm -Superman had a fortress of solitude. It was a magical wonderland, apart from the rest of the world, where he could go to really get some thinking done. Now I’m sure that crumby little desk you have in the corner of your room has done you fine these last few years, but I suggest that to be great, you must surround yourself with greatness. That includes the equipment you use to get your work done, the people you choose to have around you, and the things you choose to spend your time doing.

GREEN IS THE NEW BLACK. That’s it. I said it.

Maybe Al Gore wasn’t crazy after all? Wait, let’s not go that far. He’s definitely crazy, he just had a few crazy ideas that happened to be true. We need to make some changes to ensure the environment is healthy for those who come after us. So, I’m going to give you a couple of tips about Living Green.

Be More Creative by Thinking like a Child
Written by Ibrahim on March 27, 2008 – 6:38 pm -
Now this may seem a little backwards, but I think the best way to become more creative is to allow yourself to think like a child. Not every thought has to be logical, has to make sense, has to be socially normal.

Make money while you sleep
Written by Ibrahim on March 27, 2008 – 6:31 pm -
Passive Income: every college student’s dream. But I often wonder, why is it that this seed of a dream never grows into something profitable. There are plenty of ways to make an extra dollar without having to put in an 8 hour workday. And while I’m sure it can be fulfilling working day in and day out, making profits for someone else, while only receiving a small fraction of those same profits, I know there is a better way. And if we are truly in the prime of our intellectual capabilities, now is the time to figure out what that better way is.

Extracurricular Projects Make Life Richer
Written by Ibrahim on March 27, 2008 – 6:28 pm -
So I’ve been on a project high lately. Outside of school life seems to be a search for that next project, that next activity to get my fix. (Shakes and scratches like an addict) Don’t worry guys, I can quit anytime.
Honestly, though, it has really richened my life. Some of these projects are pure enjoyment, others give me extra responsibility, a few are pretty passive, and another few require daily attention. The fact is, though, that these projects give me stimulation, both mentally and physically, outside of my field of work, study, or general interest.
