10 Celebs We Really Wish Hadn’t Posed Naked

By Jemima Lopez

Nude photos are a tricky area to navigate. They can sometimes work in your favor and revive your career, but they could go the other way and lose you the respect of potential employers. At least, that's the way it is if you're a celebrity; in the real world, it's a good idea to just keep your clothes on. While plenty of stars disrobe for magazines like Playboy without much incident, there are some who should've thought twice about posing naked. Even if you've got a decent body, there are times to refuse Hugh Hefner's advances, like when you're past your prime, pregnant, or have become a bit of a train wreck (we're looking at you, Lindsay Lohan). Here's a peek at 10 celebs who posed nude, but we can't guarantee you'll like what you see.

  1. Lindsay Lohan

In an attempt to draw attention away from her rotting teeth and community service drama, Lindsay Lohan is posing nude for a Playboy spread. Hugh Hefner is apparently going to pay her almost $1 million to show her goodies, but if he had waited until she hit the bottom of her downward spiral (it's hard to believe she's not there yet), he probably could've gotten her for a lot less. Representatives for Lohan and Playboy aren't saying much yet, but Lohan's rep still maintains that she is one of the most sought-after actresses of her time. He must be talking about her parole officer. While Lohan's body is probably great and that's all the readers will be looking at, she should get her life back on track before making any serious career decisions.

  2. Carnie Wilson

We're all happy for overweight celebrities who lose a lot of unhealthy weight, and we are dying to know their secret. Most of us do not, however, want to see those bodies naked. Carnie Wilson, who young people probably only know from her cameo in Bridesmaids with her once-popular band Wilson Phillips, has struggled with her weight her whole life and finally decided to have her stomach stapled to end the battle once and for all. After losing 150 pounds, she surprisingly didn't struggle with body image and decided to celebrate her achievement with a Playboy pictorial. You can't help but admire her for her bravery, but her photos were just not sexy. Presumably to cover scars and maybe extra skin, Wilson wore a girdle that covered her from just below her breasts to just above her lady business. She left nothing to the imagination except the question of what she was hiding under that belly wrap.

  3. Carla Bruni

We all know the French are a little more open with things like sex and nudity than Americans are, but it seems a little scandalous even for them that the president's wife has appeared naked in Playboy. The beautiful Carla Bruni had a very successful career as a singer, actress, and model before marrying Nicolas Sarkozy in 2008, and appeared in Playboy several times in the 1990s. She probably never thought that she'd end up as the First Lady of France, though. Can you imagine any wife of a U.S. president doing the same thing? Americans would probably have the president impeached, even if the First Lady looked as good as Bruni. Bruni's photos only enforced her husband's party-boy, womanizing image and probably don't help in international negotiations when other world leaders can tell Sarkozy they've seen his wife's nipples.

  4. Daryl Hannah

There was a time when Daryl Hannah was a beautiful star in movies like Steel Magnolias and Splash, in which she falls in love with a young, handsome Tom Hanks. But would you want to see Tom Hanks naked now, decades after his best years? The answer should be no unless you're Rita Wilson who is probably contractually obligated. Hannah should've employed this line of thought in 2003 when she was considering appearing nude in Playboy as a way to garner attention for her role in Kill Bill. The 40-year-old looked good for her age, no doubt, but there's something to be said for aging with dignity. But if her terrible plastic surgery tells us anything, it's that graceful aging is not a concept Hannah understands.

  5. Amanda Beard

Olympic swimmer Amanda Beard is an impressive woman. She's won seven Olympic medals and she has the body to prove it. Part of being a swimmer, though, means gaining broad, muscular shoulders and aerodynamic (meaning small) breasts, so Beard wasn't an ideal candidate for Playboy where models are normally voluptuous and feminine. Beard's strong jaw line also didn't come out looking very soft in the photos, making her appear even more manly. The biggest problem with Beard skinny dipping for the shoot could be the way it changes people's opinions of female athletes. Some think it damages the image women have been working for decades to establish and makes society respect sporty girls less. Others think it's a step toward equality when female athletes are considered just as sexy as the men — a feat Beard accomplished by looking masculine.

  6. Sandra Bernhard

If you know who Sandra Bernhard is, you probably just shuddered when you imagined her in a Playboy spread. It's not that the 56-year-old comedian doesn't have a perfectly fine body; she's just so over-the-top and confrontational that she's probably not someone you'd want to be naked and vulnerable around. Just the image of her gap-toothed grin probably makes most guys want to hide their sensitive bits. She appeared nude in Playboy in 1992 when she was in her late 30s. Bernhard says the naked shoot was a feminist statement, but many feminists would probably argue that becoming a prop at sperm banks does not advance women's equality. Worse yet, she may be encouraging men to totally avoid looking at the faces of naked women.

  7. Tara Reid

Playboy didn't exactly have the exclusive on Tara Reid's breasts considering she had one of the most extreme nipple slips of all time on a red carpet several years ago. But the magazine did have the privilege of showing off her recently repaired plastic surgery. After her breast augmentation and the liposuction on her stomach went horribly wrong, Reid got a lot of bad press for her awkward, sagging boobs and the unnatural ridges on her stomach. She had them fixed, though, and wanted to show everyone she was OK (and remind them that she still exists). Obviously the only way to do that was to expose them in the men's entertainment magazine. Sure, her boobs are in the right place and she's airbrushed to perfection, but it's hard to get the image of the old ones out of your head.

  8. Farrah Fawcett

When Farrah Fawcett was at the height of her sex icon career in the '70s and '80s, it was incredibly classy of her to refuse to appear nude in Playboy. Everyone knew she looked amazing and she didn't need to show her good china to be remembered by men. Fawcett appeared on the cover of the magazine in 1978, but she left most of her body covered. Most people get more modest with age (and wrinkles), but in 1995, Fawcett decided that being 48 years old meant she should finally go naked in Playboy. She did it again at age 50, along with shooting a nude video. We can all agree that for a 50-year-old, she had a great body, but it doesn't change the fact that the adolescent boys who were sneaking peaks at her had mothers her age or younger.

  9. Lisa Rinna

Pregnancy and childbirth are some of those things that are beautiful in theory, but not so much when you're face-to-face with the awful truth. And while you might think your own pregnant wife is sexy, it's not typically the kind of image you turn to Playboy to see. That didn't stop the magazine from running photos of a pregnant Lisa Rinna in 1998. Rinna is a former soap opera actress, who appeared in Days of Our Lives and Melrose Place, and is now a TV host and reality star. She was six months pregnant when she stripped down for the photo shoot, so there's no way to see her as anything but a mother. Imagine how her husband must feel with both his wife and daughter (though unborn at the time) in a Playboy pictorial.

  10. Beth Ditto

You may not know the name Beth Ditto, but if you do, it's probably in reference to her being completely unashamed of her obesity. She's the lead singer of the band, Gossip, and she easily captivates crowds with her free, hard-rock spirit. While you can't help but admire her lack of self-consciousness, you also have to wonder how far is too far. Ditto didn't appear in Playboy, but she did show off her big birthday suit on the cover of NME magazine, a music weekly in Britain, with a pair of lips painted on her naked butt. She's probably making some great statement about the ridiculous beauty standards of our time, but honestly, it's hard to see the point around her obviously unhealthy body.
